2026 - What, a year

New year new us; new ways to apply ourselves, new goals to be had and habits to establish. We strive to become better than what we were the previous year and set off with renewed determination as that clock strikes midnight. Some choose a theme for the year or have meticulously thought out a list of goals, and we all try our best to become better than we were. With the new year, comes a bounty of resolutions – and I thought, what a time as now to introduce myself and my plans for this new year.

New Years Resolutions

I was speaking with my grandfather recently about my goals for the new year and he had a laugh at mine, though it was a kind laugh. He said to the tune of, “Usually people are trying to stop bad habits by creating new good habits, your resolutions barely have any of that.” It made me think, why not treat your resolutions like a bucket list? That is essentially what I have going on for the majority of mine. I needed my list to be something I was excited for, not something that was held together by loose promises to my future self.

When I was first creating my list, I had to figure out what I could realistically achieve in a year and plan ahead of time for it. I bought myself a planner for the first time in years and planned out my month of January on December 28th. I knew I wanted to get fit (as I work a sitting office job in the cave that is my room) since I basically lived like a hermit. I wanted to find a community and I also wanted to start this blog as something fun to do. As I brainstormed, everything on the list seemed to follow a particular theme in the end – and so I present to you; my Medieval Year of 2026!

Medieval fantasy is often where my mind escapes to, whenever I need to forget for a moment the onslaught of terrible news plaguing every waking second of this country. As of writing this, it’s three days after the Trump administration invaded Venezuela and kidnapped their president. I am planning on writing a separate article about that instance of living history, but for now I’ll return to my point; I had to turn my resolutions into something that would motivate me and assist me in staying sane. I need this to be a good year for me personally, even if the world falls apart around me despite my best efforts.

For the two items on the list that don’t explain themselves well, WeaponUp (to my understanding), is yoga but with swords. I have been needing exercise, as mentioned before, and I thought this would be a fun way to build up my endurance and strength that I would otherwise not get. As for Finch, it is a daily routine tool that I use to help me maintain a consistent schedule. I have everything that I need to do on that list and when I complete each task, I am rewarded with having the bird I’m raising discover new things. I’ve been using Finch for awhile now and it works for me, I can genuinely recommend it if you struggle with maintaining a schedule like me (#notsponsored).

I greatly encourage you all to take this approach in creating or modifying your resolutions. Turn it into an interest of yours so you can remain motivated as the year goes on. I’ll probably do another post about this about six months later to document my progress, I too hope this ends up working out for me and I set out on all I am meant to achieve.

In the meantime,

memento vivere
